Simon Armitage

What a dude... Anyone who went to Poetry Live will tell you. Oh yeah, this is supposed to be revision, isn't it?

Bit of Background

Examiners always like to be wowed by that extra bit of knowledge. Don't bog them down with it, but spritz a bit in if you can...

Simon was born in West Yorkshire (he even comes from around here! ahem.) on 8 October, 1963. He works as a freelance writer, broadcaster and playwright, and has written extensively for radio and television. At currently 42, he's not doing bad for himself with a number of published credits:

1991 - ZOOM (Bloodaxe)
1992 - KID (Faber)
1993 - BOOK OF MATCHES (Faber)
1995 - THE DEAD SEA POEMS (Faber)
1996 - MOON COUNTRY with Glyn Maxwell (Faber)
1997 - CLOUDCUCKOOLAND (Faber)
1998 - ALL POINTS NORTH Prose (Penguin)
1999 - SHORT AND SWEET Anthology (Faber), KILLING TIME
2000 - MISTER HERACLES Play (Faber)
2001 - SELECTED POEMS (Faber)
2002 - TRAVELLING SONGS (Faber), THE UNIVERSAL HOME DOCTOR (Faber)
2003 - TED HUGHES poems selected by Simon Armitage (Faber Poets series)

The one we're really interested in (as a good number of the poems in the anthology are from it) is the Book of Matches.
